List of Acceptable Identifying Documents

1. California ID or Driver's License

An identification card or driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles;

2. A United States passport

3. Inmate ID card (State of CA)

An inmate identification card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, if the inmate is in custody in prison; or

4. Inmate ID (Sheriff's Dept.)

Any form of inmate identification issued by a sheriff’s department, if the inmate is in custody in a local detention facility.

5. Consular ID document or foreign Passport

A valid consular identification document issued by a consulate from the applicant’s country of citizenship, or a valid passport from the applicant’s country of citizenship;  must contain a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number.

6. Out of State or Canadian or Mexican Driver's License

A driver’s license issued by another US state or by a Canadian or Mexican  public agency authorized to issue drivers’ licenses; must contain a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number. 

7. An identification card issued by another US state. Must contain a photo.

8. ID card (Any branch of Armed Forces of US)

An identification card issued by any branch of the Armed Forces of the United  States (caution: current military identification cards may not have all of the  required elements); must contain a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number. 

9. Employee ID card (State of California)

An employee identification card issued by an agency or office of the State of  California, or by an agency or office of a city, county, or city and county in California;  must contain a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number.

10. Tribal Federal ID card

An identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government.  Must contain a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number.
